About · How we work
How TechBrot works: scope, review, sources, and your file.
The rules every engagement runs on, stated so you can hold us to them: the sequence from first call to handoff, who reviews the work, where our facts come from, whose QuickBooks file the work lives in, and what happens when the scope changes. TechBrot is an independent bookkeeping and advisory firm led by a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor — not a CPA firm, and not affiliated with Intuit Inc.
Every TechBrot engagement runs the same way. A free 30-minute discovery call; a written fixed-fee scope within 3 business days; the work done inside your own QuickBooks file as an accountant user you can remove at any time; every engagement reviewed by TechBrot’s founder, a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor; and books handed to your CPA ready for filing. All client work today is delivered directly by TechBrot. Facts we publish come from the primary source — Intuit’s own current articles, the tax agency’s own page, a competitor’s own pricing page — with the date we read it. If the work genuinely grows beyond the written scope, it is re-scoped and re-approved in writing before it continues.

How we work, in five questions.
What are the steps of a TechBrot engagement?
Discovery call → written fixed-fee scope → access to your own file → work and review → CPA-ready handoff. The call is free and 30 minutes; the scope arrives within 3 business days; nothing starts until you accept it.
Who reviews the work?
TechBrot’s founder, a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor (QuickBooks Online Level 2 and Payroll), reviews every engagement. All client work today is delivered directly by TechBrot.
What is the primary-source rule?
A fact that belongs to someone else — an Intuit procedure, a tax rate, a competitor’s price — is cited from that source’s own current page, with a date. If it can’t be traced there, it isn’t published.
Where do my books live during an engagement?
In your own QuickBooks file. You add TechBrot as an accountant user, you can see the audit trail, and you can revoke access at any time. The file stays yours when the engagement ends.
What happens if the job turns out bigger than scoped?
It is re-scoped and re-approved in writing before the work continues. Nothing outside the agreed scope is billed without that approval.
From the first call to the CPA handoff.
The same sequence for bookkeeping, cleanup, catch-up, payroll, sales tax and advisory work. The detail of each phase is on our methodology page.
Discovery call
Free, 30 minutes. We learn what is wrong with the books and what you need, and say plainly whether TechBrot fits.
Written fixed-fee scope
Within 3 business days: what will be done, by when, and for what fixed fee. You accept it, decline it, or ask questions — no obligation.
Access to your own file
You add TechBrot as an accountant user on your own QuickBooks file. No export, no parallel system.
Work, then review
The work is done inside your file against the written scope, and every engagement is reviewed by TechBrot’s founder, a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
CPA-ready handoff
Books your CPA can file from. On recurring engagements, year-end files go to your CPA or EA at no extra cost. We do not file tax returns.
Who does the work, and who checks it.
Every engagement is reviewed by TechBrot’s founder, a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor whose active certifications are QuickBooks Online (Level 2) and QuickBooks Payroll. Certification belongs to a person, not to a firm, so that is how we state it. Intuit’s public ProAdvisor directory lists active ProAdvisors for verification.
All client work today is delivered directly by TechBrot. TechBrot may use vetted independent contractors working under its supervision and review. Whoever touches your books, the work is scoped by TechBrot, done in your file, and reviewed before it is handed back to you. Independent bookkeepers who want to do contract work under that review can read how working with TechBrot works.
What you can check today is on the trust page and in the two verified Clutch reviews, written up as anonymized case studies.
Where our facts come from.
The primary-source rule: a fact that belongs to someone else is cited from that someone’s own current page, with a date. If it can’t be traced there, it doesn’t go on the page.
Intuit procedures and error codes
Our QuickBooks help and error-code pages are written from Intuit’s own current support articles, and they give the date Intuit states on the article. Where Intuit’s article is silent — on a cause, a variant, a status code — the page says so rather than filling the gap with a guess.
Tax rules and rates
State and federal figures are taken from the agency’s own page or the statute. We keep the records and schedules your tax professional files from; we do not give the filing position.
Other firms’ prices
Quoted only as the firm’s own pricing page states them, with the page named and the date we read it. If a page shows no price, we say so and leave it out. See the market tables on cleanup pricing and bookkeeping pricing.
Our own claims
Prices are the ranges on our pricing page. Reviews are the two verified on Clutch — no aggregate star rating until five exist. When a page is corrected, its Updated date changes; a Reviewed date appears only where a named person reviewed dated facts, never as a build date.
The work happens in your file. The file is yours.
- Your QuickBooks file, your subscription. The work happens in the file registered to your business. You own it; we never move your books into a system of ours.
- Accountant-user access you control. You grant it, you can see what was done in the audit trail, and you can revoke it at any time.
- No data held hostage. If you stop working with us, the books stay where they have always been — in your file — and any provider can pick them up.
- Your CPA can work in the same file. The handoff is the file itself plus the supporting schedules, not a re-keyed copy.
When the work changes, the scope changes first — in writing.
Every engagement starts from a written fixed-fee scope: what will be done, by when, and for what fee. There is no hourly billing, so there is no meter running while you ask questions.
Files sometimes turn out to need more than the scope covers — an extra account, another year of history, a second entity. When that happens, we stop at the edge of the scope, tell you what we found, and re-scope it in writing. The new fee is re-quoted and re-approved in writing before the work continues. Nothing outside the agreed scope is billed without that approval, and work that does not match the scope is corrected at no cost.
Published fee ranges for every service are on the pricing page; the written scope sets your exact number within them.
What we do, and what we hand to others.
What TechBrot does
QuickBooks cleanup, catch-up and ongoing bookkeeping, controller and fractional CFO advisory, QuickBooks migration, payroll and sales-tax records — each on a written fixed-fee scope.
What we hand to others
TechBrot is not a CPA firm and does not perform audits, reviews, compilations, or income-tax filing. Financial statements we prepare are unaudited, for internal management use, and provide no assurance. Your CPA or EA files; we give them books ready to file from.
