Louisiana · Construction

Louisiana construction bookkeeping: every job costed, every contract sized against the license.

Louisiana ties contractor licensing to the value of the job, so a contractor’s books have to show each contract’s value as clearly as its margin. We keep job costing, contract values and parish-level records in your own QuickBooks file, remotely, on a written fixed-fee scope.

§Louisiana, in one paragraph

Louisiana construction bookkeeping is job costing plus two Louisiana-specific checks. The State Licensing Board for Contractors sets license requirements by job value — for example, commercial work of $50,000 or more requires a licensed commercial contractor, and home improvement work over $7,500 up to $50,000 requires registration — so each contract’s value belongs in the books. Local sales tax runs through each parish’s collector, so jobs carry their parish. TechBrot keeps the books in your own QuickBooks file; licensing questions go to the board.

§Contracting in Louisiana

What a Louisiana contractor’s books have to show.

A Lafayette remodeler taking on a $60,000 residential job, an electrician quoting a $12,000 panel upgrade, and a general contractor bidding a commercial build-out in Shreveport are each crossing a threshold the licensing board publishes. The books are where the contract values live, so they are where a threshold gets noticed.

The rest is construction bookkeeping done properly: costs coded to jobs, change orders recorded as they happen, retainage tracked, and each job’s parish recorded so purchases and local-tax questions trace to the right collector.
